Get The Lowest Car Insurance Rates in California

By: Ross Gordon

As a Californian driver, you know that car insurance is far from cheap. What you may not have known is that California drivers pay much higher premiums than most other states. But it doesn't have to be this way! There is a lot you can do to make sure you're not paying more than you have to.

If you're under 25 and male you're probably paying more than everyone else. There are a few things you can do to lower your rates. Getting married is one of these things. Marriage certainly isn't for everybody and if you aren't in a serious relationship this option may be out of the question. Going to school is another way to lower your rates, without all the commitment. Going to school, even at a community college, while maintaining a 3.0+ GPA can significantly lower your insurance costs. This is still a big commitment, but not nearly as big of a commitment as marriage. These 2 methods are said to be signs of maturity, something that insurance companies take into great consideration.

If you're looking for smaller and easier price breaks, show the insurance companies that you're a responsible driver. If you've been in an car accident or have even one speeding ticket, you need to prove to the insurance companies that you've done something to improve your driving. Signing up for a safe driving or defensive driving course will help you work out a deal.

As you probably already know, the car you drive weighs heavily on your premium. This is especially true for the under 25 male population. Insurance companies feel much safer lending coverage to a 20 year old male driving a slow economy car rather than the same person speeding around in a fast sports car.

You can take advantage of all the workarounds like marriage and attending school. But a sure fire way to ensure you're paying the lowest premium possible is to shop around. There are literally hundreds of insurance companies in the state of California, at least one of them will have a rate you can be happy with. All you have to do is find them.

Get a hold of as many auto insurance companies as you can. Find out their rates and determine just how much coverage you'll be getting for the price. California state law requires $15,000 dollars in coverage for injuries for yourself and almost double that for people in the other car you may harm in an accident. Keep these figures in mind before settling in with an insurance company.
